Best Tesla Model Y Replacement Wiper Blades? Bosch AeroTwin Review + Easy DIY Installation

Tesla Model Y replacement wiper blades

If your Tesla Model Y windshield wipers are starting to streak, chatter, squeak, or simply aren’t clearing the windshield like they used to, replacing them is one of the easiest DIY maintenance jobs you can do.

And you don’t necessarily need to make a Tesla Service appointment.

One replacement we’ve found that’s worth considering for compatible Model Y vehicles is the BOSCH 3397014621 AeroTwin Wiper Blade Set.

The package includes both front blades:

Driver Side: 26 inches (650 mm)
Passenger Side: 20 inches (500 mm)

Those are the same blade lengths Tesla specifies for the Model Y.

Even better, replacing them yourself only takes a few minutes once you know about one important Tesla feature:

Wiper Service Mode.

Here’s why we like the Bosch AeroTwin blades and how to install them yourself.

Bosch AeroTwin 3397014621 Wiper Blades

The product we’re looking at is:

BOSCH 3397014621 AeroTwin Wiper Blades – Set of 2

The set gives you both front windshield wipers rather than requiring you to purchase the driver’s and passenger’s blades separately.

The sizes are:

26″ Driver Side
20″ Passenger Side

That matches Tesla’s specified Model Y blade lengths.

The AeroTwin is also a modern beam-style wiper rather than the traditional exposed metal-frame design many of us remember.

Why We Like the Bosch AeroTwin

There are a few reasons this particular set caught our attention.

First, Bosch is a well-established automotive parts manufacturer, rather than an unknown brand selling inexpensive replacement blades.

Second, the AeroTwin uses a low-profile beam-style design that looks appropriate on the Model Y.

And most importantly for DIY Tesla owners, the correct version provides a compatible mounting system rather than requiring you to struggle with a pile of universal adapters.

That’s important because Tesla specifically warns that replacement blades need the correct connector. Having the right blade length isn’t enough if the attachment doesn’t match your vehicle.

Why Good Wiper Blades Matter More Than You Might Think on a Tesla

Obviously, windshield wipers are important because you need to see when driving in rain or snow.

But there’s another reason Tesla owners should pay attention to them.

Your Tesla’s forward-facing cameras need a clear view through the windshield.

A worn blade that leaves water, dirt, streaks or smears across the windshield isn’t just annoying.

It can reduce visibility through the glass.

Tesla itself recommends replacing Model Y wiper blades at least once per year for optimum performance.

Realistically, replacement frequency depends on where you live and how the vehicle is stored.

Heat, freezing temperatures, ice, UV exposure and heavy use can all deteriorate wiper rubber.

Signs Your Tesla Model Y Needs New Wipers

You don’t necessarily have to wait a full year.

We’d replace them whenever they stop performing properly.

Common warning signs include:

Streaking

You see lines of water remaining after every pass.

Chattering

The blade jumps across the windshield instead of gliding smoothly.

Squeaking

Some noise is possible under certain conditions, but persistent squeaking can indicate worn or contaminated blades.

Missed Areas

Parts of the windshield aren’t being wiped clean.

Visible Rubber Damage

Inspect the blade and look for cracking, splitting, deformation or missing pieces.

Before replacing an otherwise good blade, try cleaning the windshield and wiper rubber. Dirt and contamination can sometimes cause symptoms that resemble a worn-out blade.

If cleaning doesn’t solve the problem, it’s probably replacement time.

How to Replace Tesla Model Y Wiper Blades

Here’s the good part.

You don’t need any special tools.

You can perform this job in your driveway or garage in just a few minutes.

There is, however, a specific procedure you should follow.

Step 1: Put Your Model Y in Park

Park your Tesla on a level surface and put the vehicle into Park.

Make sure the windshield wipers are turned off.

Don’t simply grab the wiper arms and try pulling them upward from their normal parked position.

Tesla provides a dedicated service position for this.

Step 2: Turn On Wiper Service Mode

From your Tesla touchscreen, navigate to:

Controls → Service → Wiper Service Mode

Turn Wiper Service Mode ON.

The wipers will move upward into a position where you can access them.

This is one of those Tesla features that’s easy to overlook until the first time you replace your wipers.

Step 3: Protect Your Windshield With a Towel

Here’s a tip we strongly recommend:

Place a folded towel on the windshield underneath the wiper arm.

Why?

Once you’ve removed the blade, you’re left holding a metal wiper arm directly above a very expensive piece of glass.

If you accidentally let go and the arm snaps back against the windshield, you could potentially damage the glass.

Tesla specifically recommends placing a towel between the arm and windshield during replacement.

Don’t skip this step.

Step 4: Carefully Lift the Wiper Arm

Lift the wiper arm only far enough away from the windshield to access the blade connection.

Don’t try to pull the arm straight up like you might on some traditional vehicles.

Tesla warns that the wiper arms don’t lock into an upright position.

You only need enough room to remove the blade.

Support the arm while you’re working.

Step 5: Find the Locking Tab

Locate the locking tab where the Bosch/Tesla-style blade connects to the wiper arm.

Hold onto the wiper arm while pressing the tab.

The old blade can then be slid away from the arm.

Don’t force anything.

Once the retaining mechanism is properly released, the blade should slide free.

Step 6: Don’t Let Go of the Wiper Arm!

This deserves its own step.

Once the blade is removed:

Do not let the bare wiper arm fall onto the windshield.

Keep one hand on it.

That’s also why we placed the towel underneath it.

If you need both hands to unpack the replacement blade, gently rest the arm against the towel rather than directly against the windshield.

Step 7: Install the New Bosch AeroTwin Blade

Now grab the corresponding Bosch replacement.

Remember:

26″ = Driver side

20″ = Passenger side

Align the connector with the wiper arm.

Slide the blade into position until it locks securely.

You should be able to hear and/or feel a click when the blade is properly seated.

Don’t assume it’s attached just because it looks right.

Step 8: Perform a Push-Pull Test

Before placing the blade back against the windshield, gently push and pull on it.

The blade shouldn’t slide off the arm.

This is an important step.

If the connector isn’t fully locked, the blade could potentially detach when the wipers are operating.

Take the extra five seconds and make sure it’s secure.

Step 9: Repeat on the Passenger Side

Now repeat the same process with the 20-inch passenger-side blade.

Again:

Place a towel underneath.

Carefully lift the arm.

Press the locking tab.

Remove the old blade.

Install the new Bosch AeroTwin.

Listen for the click.

Perform the push-pull test.

Step 10: Turn Off Wiper Service Mode

Once both new blades are installed, return to:

Controls → Service → Wiper Service Mode

Turn it OFF.

The wiper arms will return to their normal parked position.

Step 11: Test Your New Wipers

Don’t wait until the next thunderstorm to discover that something isn’t installed correctly.

Test them immediately.

Use the windshield washer and run the wipers.

Make sure both blades:

  • Move normally
  • Remain securely attached
  • Clear the windshield properly
  • Don’t contact each other
  • Don’t contact surrounding trim
  • Don’t produce abnormal noises

If everything looks good, you’re finished.

That’s it.

How Long Does It Take?

Once you’ve done it before, replacing both Model Y wipers can be an extremely quick DIY maintenance job.

There’s:

No jack.

No tools.

No removing panels.

No service appointment.

You’re essentially putting the Tesla into Wiper Service Mode, releasing two tabs, swapping the blades and testing them.

It’s one of the easiest maintenance jobs you can perform on a Model Y.

A Word About 2025+ Model Y Compatibility

This is important if you own a newer Model Y.

Tesla documentation indicates that the wiper blade connection changed on vehicles manufactured around February 2025.

Because of that, don’t purchase replacement wipers based only on the fact that they’re 26 and 20 inches.

Verify that BOSCH part number 3397014621 is listed as compatible with your exact Model Y year and configuration before ordering.

This is especially important for newer Model Y/Juniper vehicles.

Amazon’s vehicle-fitment tool can be useful here, but we still recommend verifying the manufacturer’s listed compatibility.

For owners of earlier Model Y vehicles, the Bosch 3397014621 AeroTwin is a particularly interesting option because it’s designed around the 26″/20″ configuration used by the Model Y.

Should You Replace Both Wipers at the Same Time?

We generally would.

Even if one blade looks slightly worse than the other, they’ve usually experienced the same:

Sun.

Rain.

Snow.

Ice.

Heat.

Cold.

And roughly the same number of wiping cycles.

The Bosch set includes both sizes, so you can replace both at once and start fresh.

Then make it part of your annual Tesla maintenance routine.

Our Verdict: A Simple Model Y DIY Upgrade

We love Tesla accessories that make the car look cooler.

But sometimes the best purchases are the boring ones that simply make owning the car easier.

Good windshield wipers definitely fall into that category.

The BOSCH 3397014621 AeroTwin set gives compatible Model Y owners both front replacement blades in the correct 26-inch and 20-inch sizes.

And installation is about as DIY-friendly as Tesla maintenance gets.

Put the car in Wiper Service Mode.

Protect the windshield with a towel.

Release the old blade.

Click the Bosch replacement into place.

Repeat.

Test.

Done.

No service center required.

For Model Y owners who enjoy handling simple maintenance themselves—and saving some money in the process—the Bosch AeroTwin blades are definitely worth considering.
